Fire destroys Arlington home; 7 people evacuated

ARLINGTON - Seven people escaped from an early morning house fire here Saturday, but their home and its contents were a complete loss.

Arlington firefighters said the blaze was reported after 3:30 a.m. in the 5200 block of 170th Street NE.

When crews arrived at the scene, flames were raging through the structure, and all the home's occupants had managed to get out. Two sustained minor injuries and were taken to Cascade Valley Hospital.

Several pet dogs were unaccounted for, however, and some were feared lost.

Hours later, firefighters remained at the scene mopping up.

Officials said they are looking at a portable heater as a possible cause of the fire. The family may have turned on the heater to keep a pet dog warm.

Officials had no dollar estimate of the damage, but said the home and contents were a total loss. Four cars at the residence were destroyed and two were damaged.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family with housing.
