Search on for 2 drivers behind fatal hit and run

By Keith Eldridge

TACOMA, Wash. -- Police say they have a person of interest in the deadly hit and run accident that claimed the life of a man over the weekend, but no arrests.

Police are looking for two drivers both of whom they believe hit 48-year-old Steven Bunn as he tried to cross the street.

Bunn's girlfriend believes it's only a matter of time before the law catches up with the two drivers.

"You're going to get caught," said Sophia Moore. "You know you did it. You can't hide from God and he's going to make sure you get caught."

Moore, who had been with Bunn for 18 years, said she's clutching on to the memories in his absence.

"Steven was a nice guy. I loved him with all my heart and I miss him so much," she said.

Bunn was hit just two blocks from his apartment at the intersection of 38th and South Fawcett just before 2 a.m. on Sunday. Witnesses said they saw him get hit not once, but twice at the busy thoroughfare then get left for dead.

"I just don't understand how they could go on like that and just hurt somebody and not have any kind of conscience or heart to even help him, you know," said friend Marisha Burgess.

"They couldn't have not known that they'd hit the guy," said police spokesman Mark Fulghum. "So were they together, we're they not? (that's) something we're going to look at."

Witnesses said Bunn was hit by a red 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup with dark tinted windows and silver rims, as well as a white 1998 Lexus with gold trim and a tan-colored top. Similar models are shown below.

Family and friends tell us Bunn has been hit by cars twice before and had learned his lesson about being careful around cars.

But what they can't figure out is why Bunn had a head injury but no broken bones.

"Something is not right about this because I can't imagine a truck and a car hit a person and no other part of his body being damaged, just his head," said friend Brenda Ford.

Family and friends wonder if somebody hurt Bunn then threw him into the street.

"I just miss him so much and I just wish whoever did this just come forward," Bunn said.

Bunn will most likely be taken back to California for burial, his family said.
