First lady gives the nod to Barney's admirer

First lady gives the nod to Barney's admirer

A local pooch may be one step closer to uniting with the puppy love of her life, thanks to one grand gesture and the OK from the first lady.

Kenzie, a Scottish terrier from Kent, made a video, in which she proclaims her love for Barney, the first dog and also a Scottish terrier, and asks him to give her a chance.

That video has become a huge hit, and 765,000 people have watched it on the Web site YouTube.com, including apparently the first family.

First lady Laura Bush even mentioned it on national television. She gave her blessing to the attempt at matchmaking.

"So if there's a way to get a good match with Barney and Kenzie, that'd be great," Mrs. Bush said on ABC's Good Morning America.

When she was asked "is there any way we can make a love connection here?" Mrs. Bush said, "sure, we would love to. Barney has actually been going through all of his mail. He's not found a Valentine from Kenzie and I know Barney would love to have the chance to meet her."

Shelby and Ben Dobbs, Kenzie's owners, couldn't believe what they were hearing.

"It's crazy. It's kind of the random dream, you know joke of a dream come true," said Shelby Dobbs.

After hearing the first lady's encouraging words, Kenzie made sure she sent off a Valentine's Day card to Barney. She also included a big glamour shot photo of herself for good measure.

Kenzie makes no bones about her feelings for the first dog. And now, it looks like the Scottie hottie might just collar a date with the top dog at the White House.
