QUILCENE, Wash. (AP) - A Lopez Island couple were killed when their small plane crashed on the Olympic Peninsula's Mount Walker, officials said Friday.

The wreckage was found by searchers in a King County sheriff's helicopter, which was used to recover the bodies from the rugged site late Friday afternoon, Jefferson County Undersheriff Tim Perry said. He identified the victims as the plane's registered owner, Wilburn O. Ingham, 77, and his wife, Norma, 64.

The plane, a Cessna 205, took off from Lopez Island, about 60 miles northwest of Seattle, Thursday morning, headed for Madera, Calif. Family members called the Federal Aviation Administration when it didn't arrive as scheduled, said agency spokesman Mike Fergus.

The FAA checked its radar, which last showed the plane over the Olympic Peninsula at 9:20 a.m. Thursday. Searchers found the wreck in the woods at the 2,000-foot level of Mount Walker, between Quilcene and Brinnon on the eastern side of the peninsula.

There was no immediate indication what caused the crash, Perry said.
