ENUMCLAW, Wash. -- Four teens were seriously injured early Wednesday morning when the driver of their car smashed into a tree.

King County Sheriff's spokesman John Urquhart says it was around 12:30 a.m. when the teens were driving along SE 416th Street near the Muckleshoot Indian reservation outside of Enumclaw.

The 16-year-old driver lost control and crashed through a fence and into a group of fir trees in the 19000 block.

Two teens were trapped in the wreckage and firefighters had to use chainsaws to free them.

Two of the more seriously injured were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle; the other two were taken there by ambulance. Their conditions are not known.

Their names have not been released, but Urquhart said one passenger was 15 and the other was 16. The third passenger's age is not known at this time.

Urquhart said investigators believe alcohol and speed contributed to the crash.
