Rescuers Fail To Free Tangled Bird

Rescuers Fail To Free Tangled Bird

By KOMO Staff & News Services

KENMORE - The Bothell Fire Department and Progressive Animal Welfare Society have not been able to help a cormorant tangled in a fishing line in a tree in Kenmore.

PAWS spokeswoman Mary Schilder says the fire truck couldn't reach the bird in two attempts. And she believes the bird has died.

Schilder says the bird hasn't moved all afternoon. The heat, exhaustion and lack of food and water has taken its toll.

People first started reported the bird struggling Sunday to PAWS, firefighters and the Fish and Wildlife Department. But efforts Monday to rescue the bird were unsuccessful.

Schilder says she hopes people will remember this bird and do a better job of cleaning up fishing line when they see it on the ground or in the water.
