Which bargain PCs rated best?

You can spend a small fortune on a souped-up computer. But maybe you don't need the latest and greatest.
There are lots of basic machines on the market at really good prices. The question is what are you giving up if you go cheap? To find out PC World magazine tested seven desktops that sell for less than $750. Each comes with a monitor, mouse and keyboard. The Dell Inspiron 530 came out on top. It delivered "impressive performance." The editors called the Inspiron 520 "a value PC with an excellent price-to-performance ratio and some room to grow." PC World also tested five laptops that sell for less than a thousand dollars. Most have 2GB of memory and at least 120GB of hard disk space. The HP Pavillion dv2660se and the Acer Aspire 5920-6954 tied for the top spot -- both earning a very good. The editors named the HP dv2660se a Best Buy. They point out that it has excellent battery life and it "will appeal to both multimedia fans and frequent travelers."
