Beacon Hill groper strikes again

Beacon Hill groper strikes again

SEATTLE -- The Beacon Hill groper has struck again.

Police believe the man accused of groping more than two dozen women in the area since 2006 attacked his latest victim around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning.

A 50-year-old woman was getting out of her car in the 4200 block of South Webster Street when a man attacked her from behind and groped her, police said.

"The victim did scream, a neighbor heard her screams, came out, saw the suspect running from the scene," said police spokesman Mark Jamieson. "The witness did give chase."

But police did not arrive at the scene in time to catch up with the fleeing man.

The scene of the attack is just a few blocks away from the area where another woman was groped just a few weeks ago.

Police say the man has been targeting Asian women as they walk to and from three bus stops.

Police have few leads, as they only have a vague description of the suspect who sometimes wears a green ski mask and a red scarf.

Police are urging women in the area to walk in pairs. They say women who are attacked should scream because the suspect seems to be easily spooked. No one has been raped or critically hurt.

But until the man is caught, police are asking people take extra steps and maintain extra vigilance, fearful that the next attack could be far more violent.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call police.
