POULSBO - A 42-year-old Bainbridge Island man was killed Sunday along Highway 305 north of Seminole Road after the truck he was driving went off the road, according to Washington State Patrol reports.

The man and his 8-year-old son were heading north along Highway 305 near Seminole Road around 2 p.m. when the man's 1977 Toyota pickup truck left the road to the right, went down an embankment and struck a tree, according to reports.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His son was initially taken to Harrison Medical Center, but was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a broken neck.

Troopers were still investigating the cause of the accident Sunday, which caused the shutdown of the northbound lanes of Highway 305 for a few hours.

The highway is the main link between Poulsbo and the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal.
