Alpental to welcome skiers this weekend
By KOMO Staff
SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- It's hard to imagine, but even with this hot weather many will spend the weekend skiing.
While many are already sunning themselves in the lowlands, Alpental at Snoqualmie Pass plans to offer what could be one final spring fling on Saturday and Sunday. "We've had snow packs. When you look at it, not a hard decision at all," Gay Lawrence, marketing director at the resort. On Friday crews prepped the slopes for the season's final weekend by grooming each run and making every attempt to offset the troubles warm sunshine makes for ski conditions. "We give the best product we can under the circumstances. But I think the important thing to realize is it is going to obviously be spring conditions," said Lawrence. If conditions hold up, there's a chance the slopes could hold up longer. Still, this weekend is the last sure bet. "It's going to be hot. Sun screen is going to be a must. It's going to be slushy. But it will be fun," said Pete Ireton, skier. Another perk of skiing in the sunshine is the easy drive to the resort. Interstate 90 is clear for traffic with almost no chance of an avalanche. |
