Jogger dies after being hit by car

By Associated Press

SEATTLE - A woman was killed after being hit by a car near the intersection of 24th Avenue East and Boyer Avenue East around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Seattle police said.

Police said a Pontiac Grand AM travelling south on 24th was turning left onto Boyer when it lost control, hit a light pole then hit the jogger. The 26-year-old jogger died instantly. Her name has not been released.

The killed jogger was with a man at the time. He was not hurt.

Police said a 16-year-old girl was behind the wheel of the Pontiac at the time. Her name has not been released.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Police said it appears the driver had a green light, but may have been driving too fast for conditions. They said preliminary reports indicate the wet pavement may have caused the car to slide out of control.
