Family who lost all on moving day gets a hand
By KOMO Staff
AUBURN, Wash. -- There is good news for the local family who lost nearly everything they owned to thieves on moving day.
Oksana Boyko and her son Oliver were moving into their new apartment when their van was stolen with all their belongings inside. "When you don't have much to begin with and lose what you have it's really hard to cope with it," said Oksana Boyko. KOMO 4 Problem Solvers asked viewers and members of the community to help. And on Monday, Boyko was handed the tools to begin anew. A team at Fred Meyer assembled a whole new dining room table and chairs for Boyko. And the Problem Solvers handed her an Ikea gift card for $500 dollars. In addition, Ikea also gave the family everything they need to get a good night's sleep. "When we got your call we wanted to help family out. So we're donating a crib that also turns into a child's bed," said Llsa Halstad of Ikea. Boyko also received a changing table and new bedding. And so many viewers offered to help. A dad donated clothing and toys his children have outgrown. "This is the best use of it," said Jim Winder. "So much good from something so bad," said Boyko. Boyko's bare apartment is starting to look more like home. |
