Bedard shaky, but gets win in M's 8-5 triumph over Royals

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - The Seattle Mariners got three RBIs from Brad Wilkerson, and two hits apiece from Jose Lopez, Jeremy Reed and Mike Morse in an 8-5 Cactus League victory over the Kansas City Royals today at Surprise, Ariz.

The Mariners jumped on former Seattle starter Gil Meche for four runs in the first inning to improve their spring record to 11-15-2.

In his final spring start, Mariners Opening Day starter Erik Bedard evened his spring record at 2-2, giving up four runs and five hits in six innings. He struck out two and walked three. Mark Lowe pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first spring save.

The Mariners wind up the Arizona part of their spring training tomorrow, facing the San Diego Padres at 12:05 p.m. at Peoria. The Mariners will go with their No. 2 starter, Felix Hernandez.

They also will send a split squad against the Giants at 7:15 tomorrow night at AT&T Park at San Francisco, with R.A. Dickey set to start.

The Mariners will play exhibition games against the Chicago Cubs on Friday and Saturday at Las Vegas, Nev., before their Monday afternoon American League regular season opener against the Texas Rangers at Safeco Field in Seattle.
