PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - After allowing two home runs in his last spring start, Felix Hernandez is not worried heading into the regular season.

Seattle's right-hander gave up three runs and nine hits in five innings against the San Diego Padres on Thursday.

"They had a lot of hits but I felt good," said Hernandez, who helped a Mariners split squad tie the Padres 10-10. "I'm ready now, ready for business."

Hernandez, No. 2 in Seattle's rotation behind ace Erik Bedard, struck out five, but allowed the two home runs, including Scott Hairston's solo shot to left-center on Hernandez's second pitch. Khalil Greene homered leading off the fourth for San Diego.

The teams combined for 32 hits and six errors. San Diego used five of its starters in the game while Seattle used only two: catcher Kenji Johjima and utility player Willie Bloomquist.

The rest of the starters from both teams were en route to their final spring training games. The Padres left for San Diego for a pair of games against the Angels while Seattle flew to San Francisco for a night game before heading to Las Vegas to face the Chicago Cubs.

That put the focus on the starting pitchers.

San Diego right-hander Chris Young gave up two runs and four hits in three innings. He gave up a one-out home run to Mark Kiger in the first and an RBI single to Bloomquist in the third. He finished with three strikeouts and one walk in his final start of the spring.

Young was hit in the torso by a ball hit by Greg Hallman in the third, but wasn't injured.

"Because I was under the weather I wasn't worried with the results," said Young, who had been bothered by flu-like symptoms the past four days. "I'm ready to go. I feel good."

Hernandez was trying to rebound from his two most recent outings when he struggled with his control. He gave up five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings during an 8-4 loss to Milwaukee on March 16, then allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings in an intrasquad game on Saturday.

Against the Padres, Hernandez gave up hits to three of the first four batters he faced before striking out Tony Clark and Greene. After Greene's homer tied the game at 2-2, San Diego went ahead in the fifth on a double by Hairston and an RBI single by Adrian Gonzalez.

"Those guys were swinging at the first pitch and when I started realizing that they had two runs already," Hernandez said. "I started mixing up my pitches after that and it worked. As the game went on, my arm felt better and my pitches were working better."

The game featured an hour-long sixth inning when San Diego scored six runs and Seattle scored four. The inning lasted so long that Mariners acting manager Jim Riggleman left before the seventh to catch his flight to Las Vegas.

Notes: San Diego pitcher Mark Prior threw an eight-minute batting practice session, the first time the right-hander has faced live hitting since undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder almost a year ago. Prior threw 25 pitches during the session and reported no pain. ... Padres OF Jim Edmonds went 1-for-4 with a walk in a minor league game. Edmonds, who has been slowed by a strained right calf, could still open the season on the disabled list. ... The tie was Seattle's third of the spring, tying a franchise record.
