No Date Set For Springer's Move To Canada

No Date Set For Springer's Move To Canada

By KOMO Staff & News Services

SEATTLE - Federal whale experts in Seattle say no date has been set yet for returning an orphan orca to British Columbia waters.

They are waiting for the results of tests to make sure it doesn't have a virus or bacteria that could infect other whales in Canada.

The whale, called Springer, was captured last week in Puget Sound and is being held in a pen at Manchester. Officials hope to reunite her with her pod next month in Johnstone Strait.

The National Marine Fisheries Service held a news conference Friday to discuss the whale.

Experts say she's doing well and has already been treated for worms. A skin condition also is improving.
