While some people love the sight of an RV out in the driveway, some think seeing one of the big rigs in the neighborhood is an eyesore.

So, some Redmond residents went to their city council about it and as a result, council members passed an ordinance by a vote of 6-to-1 making new rules that will help hide those vehicles from plain view.

The ordinance contains a number of guidelines for storing RVs, including:

• Vehicles should be operable, clean and in a well-kept state.
• RVs parked on residential properties must be on the side or back of the residence, and must be screened from view with fencing or trees if they are not parked perpendicular to the street or nearest right-of-way; in front of a residence on a driveway perpendicular to the street; or in a garage or carport.
• Vehicles should not intrude into right-of-way spaces or access easements such as sidewalks, or obstruct visibility from adjacent driveways or right-of-way spaces.
• Vehicles cannot be parked on waterfronts, slopes greater than 15 percent, in designated open spaces or recreational areas, sensitive areas, buffers or flood areas.

The new ordinance also covers boat trailers, utility vehicles, and tent trailers.

Current owners will have two years to comply, new owners will have to do so immediately.

The new ordinance will affect everyone in the 98052 zip code, which is almost all of Redmond.
