TUKWILA - An impostor is on the prowl and targeting women once again.
In January, KOMO 4 News broke the story of the man who claimed to be a military hero. He stole women's hearts, and sometimes, their money.
Now KOMO News has learned the impostor is trolling the Internet again.
"Hello again."
As Rhonda begins to read the e-mail, she realizes she's heard the story before.
The man goes on to say, "I spent 20 years in the Navy. I have degrees in Physics, Aerodynamics, Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science."
The e-mail came in response to Rhonda's on-line ad. It's from a man named Reggie Malone. Although he doesn't seem to remember her - she remembers him.
"It's very creepy, it's scary," says Rhonda. "It's nauseating because I know what he's doing, I know what his answers are going to be."
"He's preying on women, innocent women who are just looking for someone to care about them."
Last January a KOMO 4 News investigation helped Tukwila police bust Malone for theft and fraud. It was then that Rhonda, and hundreds of other women around the world, learned the man they'd been dating was an impostor.
"He told me he was a Captain in the Navy" says Janice.
Janice married him, believing Malone was a decorated Navy SEAL.
Catherine almost married him, but learned the truth just in time. "I completely lost control. I was absolutely heartbroken," she said.
Malone told the women he was an elite Navy SEAL with high-level security clearance. He claimed to supervise secret military missions around the world.
Malone earned their trust.
Then, court documents show, in some cases he stole their jewelry and sometimes their money.
After we brought Malone to the attention of police, prosecutors charged him with theft for allegedly racking up $23,000 on the credit cards of his ex-wife Janice.
He's also charged with filing a false claim for military health benefits at a local hospital.
In early October, after 8 months behind bars, Reggie Malone was released from jail to await trial. According to KOMO 4 News sources, he didn't have a dime in his pocket or his laptop computer.
No one's sure where he went. But just a week after his release he popped up in Rhonda's inbox.
Rhonda reads from another of Malone's emails to her: "I was in Scotland when 5 days ago the military flew me to Iraq to help in the investigation of two downed helicopters and the loss of American lives."
"He's still saying he's going to aircraft crashes," says Rhonda "And he's using incidents in Iraq for his benefit, and that not only shocked and amazed me but it disgusted me."
"He's picked up right where he was," said Tukwila detective Jeff Early, who is investigating Malone.
The trouble is, right now Malone isn't doing anything illegal. But Detective Early isn't convinced he won't.
"Things are progressing from basic theft, living with them, mooching off the women, to possible identity theft and crimes of that sort" says Early.
Rhonda tells me she worried about going public, but wants to warn other women not to fall into the trap.
"His record shows what he does," says Rhonda "He'll be there for them, then he'll take what they have and I don't want that to happen. I want it to stop. There's got to be a way to stop him."
We tried to reach Reggie Malone and his attorney without success. Malone's case goes to trial next February.
