Monorail Is Back On The Move Again

By KOMO Staff

SEATTLE - The Seattle monorail is on the move again, and just in time for the busiest shopping weekend of the holiday season.

With Santa and mayor Greg Nickels sitting in the front seat, the red train started running again Thursday between Seattle Center and Westlake Center.

The city shut down the train last June after the blue train caught fire, trapping 150 passengers.

While the blue train is still being repaired, the red train has been upgraded with new safety features.

"We've completely rewired the high voltage system, we've installed fireproofing, we've installed heat detection," said Tom Albro with Seattle Monorail Services.

Despite spending all that money, monorail officials don't intend to raise fares. The blue train should be repaired and running again by next spring.
