Two-Alarm Blaze Burns Capitol Hill Apartments

SEATTLE - Friday night was a busy night for Seattle firefighters who had to battle a 2-alarm apartment fire on Capitol Hill.

The fire started around 10:45 p.m. at a 3-story building on East Republican Street.

When crews arrived, they found thick smoke and flames so they quickly called a second alarm.

No one was hurt, but it could have been a lot worse.

"Oh absolutely," said Helen Fitzpatrick with the Seattle Fire Department. "It's Friday night, not a lot of people were home. But those that were got out safely."

Unfortunately, people weren't allowed to go home because of smoke and fire damage.

Firefighters think the fire started on the third floor, but they aren't sure how it started.
