Seattle's Monorail Back In Service

By Associated Press

SEATTLE - The Seattle monorail is rolling again.

Service resumed at 10 a.m. Friday for regular service. That's 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

The monorail has been shut down since Nov. 26 when the monorail's two trains sideswiped each other on a curve.

Repairs cost more than $3 million for the trains that were built for the 1962 world's fair. New doors were made by the set creators for the Seattle Opera.

The city says insurance will pay for most of the bill.

The one-mile line between the Seattle Center and the downtown Westlake Center is a big tourist attraction. It has carried about two million passengers a year.

The big improvement during the repair was an automated stopping system to prevent collisions.
