How Often Does It Freeze In Seattle?

By Steve Pool

SEATTLE - The Pacific Ocean keeps western Washington generally mild in the wintertime, but it's not too hard to get freezing temperatures around here.

On average, Seattle has about 60 days a year where the temperature drops below freezing at some point, with 4 days a year where the temperature stays below freezing all day -- although until the cold snap in early January, we hadn't had a day stay below freezing since 1998.

This fall and winter season, Seattle has had 22 days that touched 32 or below, with three days where the high stayed below 32.

Seattle's last typical frost is March 24, so unless February stays pretty cold, it looks like we won't make our 60 day average.
